The Predictions of Kurzweil
Ray Kurzweil is the Director of Engineering of Google. He is a famous futurist who has a high-hitting track record for accurate predictions since the 1990s. He claims that these predictions have an accuracy of 86%. At Austin, Texas’ SXSW Conference, Kurzweil was able to create another prediction. He said that technological singularity might happen sometime in the next thirty years.
In his communication to Futurism, Kurzweil stated that the consistent date that he predicted when AI would pass a valid Turing test is 2029. They may eventually achieve human levels of intelligence. They set the time to 2045 for the ‘Singularity.’ It is when they will multiply their useful information a billion fold through merging with the intelligence they created.
As per Kurzweil in his interview with SXSW, when it is 2029, the computers will start to gain human-level intelligence.
The singularity will be a point in time when all of the advances in technology especially artificial intelligence or AI will lead to machines that are more intelligent than the human beings. The timetable for singularity may be consistent with the other predictions especially that from Softbank’s CEO Masayoshi Son. He predicted that the dawn of super-intelligent machines would occur on 20147. However, for Kurzweil, the process towards this singularity has already started.
According to Kurzweil, the computers have human intelligence because of what we put inside their brains. We connect them to the cloud and expand who we are. Now, it is not just the future scenario. In part, it is here, and it will accelerate.
We are all aware that this will come sooner or later. However, the question in everyone’s minds is: should humanity be afraid of singularity? Everyone is aware that the machines may eventually become smarter than human beings so they may take over the world. Right? A lot of the world’s science and technology bigwigs such as Bill Gates, Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking are warning everyone about this kind of future.
Kurzweil doesn’t think this will happen. In fact, he is not even worried about the singularity. He also appears to look forward to it. The prediction of science fiction as the singularity that a single AI will enslave humanity is only fiction.
According to Kurzweil in his interview with SXSW, it may not be realistic. We don’t have only one or two AIs in the world. Now we have billions.
Kurzweil thinks that the singularity is an opportunity for the improvement of humanity. He envisioned the same technology would create AIs that are more intelligent so humans will have a boost.
According to Kurzweil in an interview with SXSW, what is happening, in reality, is that the machines are powering all of us. They can make us smarter. These may not be within our bodies but, by the 2030s, we will connect to our neocortex that is the part of the brain that allows us to do our thinking to the cloud.
The idea that may be the same as Musk’s controversial neural lace and the XPRIZE Foundation chairman Peter Diamandis’ concept of “meta-intelligence.” Kurzweil was able to expound on how this technology can improve the lives of human beings.
According to Kurzweil in an SXSW interview, we will get more neocortex and become funnier and better at music. We may eventually become sexier. Everyone may be able to exemplify the things that we value in humans to a higher degree.
There may be people who view the cybernetic society as something more fantasy than future. However, Kurzweil said that there are people who have computers in their brains now: Parkinson’s patients. That is how cybernetics get their foot in the door. Since it is in technology to improve, Kurzweil predicts that in the 2030s people may invent some technology that can go inside your brain and help your memory.
Instead of the vision of singularity that machines-are- taking-over-the-world, Kurzweil thinks it will become a future of unique human-machine synthesis.
According to Kurzweil during his interview with the SXSW, we may ultimately affect everything. We may be able to meet all of the human’s physical needs and expand our minds to exemplify the artistic qualities that we value.
